Publication of an article and editorial in the journal JACC on the beneficial effect of Ryanodine receptor stabilization to improve left ventricular function in young dogs with Duchenne muscular dystrophy
Duchenne muscular dystrophy is associated with progressive deterioration of left ventricular function. The golden retriever canine model of muscular dystrophy (GRMD) recapitulates the pathology and clinical manifestations of Duchenne muscular dystrophy. It is important to note that they develop progressive left ventricular dysfunction at an early age.
In an article (with an editorial) published in the December 2021 issue of JACC (Journal of the American College of Cardiology), a collaborative study between several members of Bijan Ghaleh’s team, Stéphane Blot’s group (Fred Relaix’s team), and the joint research unit (INSERM, CNRS, University of Montpellier) “Physiology and experimental medicine of the heart and muscles of the University of Montpellier (PhyMedExp)”, demonstrates the beneficial effect of stabilization of Ryanodine receptors to improve left ventricular function in young dogs with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
