Corrective role of resolvin E1 in ciliary dyskinesia in cystic fibrosis, a study published in PNAS by Valérie URBACH’s group, Sophie LANONE’s team

Congratulations to Valérie URBACH’s group, Sophie LANONE’s team at IMRB, who have just published an excellent article in the January 22, 2024 issue of PNAS on the corrective role of resolvin E1 in ciliary dyskinesia in cystic fibrosis.

In cystic fibrosis (CF) the cilia beat dynamic which controls the quality of the airway mucociliary clearance against invading pathogens is altered.

Using live cell microscopy on primary cultures of nasal epithelial cells from patients with CF and by combining the analysis of several parameters of cilia beat mechanics as well as the airway surface liquid layer height and secreted mucins, Maelle BRIOTTET, PhD student under the supervision of Valérie URBACH within the IMRB team’s Sophie LANONE and in collaboration with Bruno LOUIS, provided evidence for the effect of the specialized pro-resolving lipid mediators, resolvin E1 and lipoxin B4 in restoring cilia beating in CF.
