Congratulations to Eva BRUNON, a PhD student in the PAWLOTSKY team, who has just won the Renaud MAHIEUX first prize at the recent French-speaking virology days in Lyon.

The 2025 winners with, from left to right, Anne-Sophie GOSSELIN-GRENET (SFV), Auriane PELSMA (1st prize, session 2), Jim ZOLADEK (2nd prize, session 1), Noël TORDO (SFV), Marine FAUCHER (2nd prize, session 2), Henri GRUFFAT (SFV) and Eva BRUNON (1st prize, session 1).

Created in 2022, the Renaud MAHIEUX awards recognize young researchers for the originality and quality of their work, presented as posters at the Journées Francophones de Virologie (JFV).

The awards also pay tribute to Renaud MAHIEUX, a colleague and friend who passed away far too soon, at the age of 52. Professor of virology, researcher at ENS Lyon, editor-in-chief of the journal Virologie and active member of the Société Française de Virologie, he left a deep mark on our community, notably for his generosity and constant commitment to young researchers. His memory continues to accompany the JFV, and this award is a moving tribute to his name and his scientific legacy.

At the XXVIIth JFV, held at the École Normale Supérieure in Lyon from April 23 to 25, 2025, four young scientists received awards: Eva BRUNON, a PhD student supervised by Patrice BRUSCELLA and Jean-Michel PAWLOTSKY in the PAWLOTSKY team, Jim ZOLADEK, Aurianne PELSMA and Marine FAUCHER.

As in previous years, the selection of the winners was based on an online vote open to all participants during the poster sessions, followed by evaluation by a panel of experts. This year’s awards were presented by Anne-Sophie GOSSELIN-GRENET and Henri GRUFFAT, on behalf of the Société Française de Virologie.
