Congratulations to Stéphane GERMAIN, GHALEH team, who has secured €50,000 in funding from the FOUNDATION FOR STROKE RESEARCH as part of the call for projects “Stroke Research Projects.”

Stéphane GERMAIN: “The urgent need to improve therapeutic strategies for stroke requires addressing several mechanisms, ranging from (i) disruption of the blood-brain barrier and cerebral vascular system following vessel occlusion or rupture, (ii) uncontrolled innate and adaptive immune responses associated with stroke, and (iii) cell death resulting from ischemia. Several studies have demonstrated the beneficial effects of the noble gas argon in preclinical models of stroke, with reduced inflammation and neuroprotective efficacy. However, the effect of argon on the vascular component of stroke, whether ischemic or hemorrhagic, remains to be studied. This project, conducted in partnership with Air Liquide, will enable us to i) evaluate the impact of argon on the cerebral endothelium and ii) thereby increase our understanding of the vascular mechanisms of action of this new medicinal gas.”
