Bundibugyo Ebola Outbreak: Vaccine Research Yields First Results

The current Ebola virus disease outbreak caused by the Bundibugyo strain in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda has spread rapidly, with more than 1,000 deaths reported as of July 22, 2026; according to the WHO, as of August 1, 2026, 3,626 confirmed cases had been recorded.

Researchers from the IMRB’s GODOT team and the University of Bordeaux, based at the Vaccine Research Institute (VRI) and the Bordeaux Population Health Center, in collaboration with the IRD, have released initial findings to accelerate the search for an effective vaccine.
